High Definition Prosthetics

The use of silicone in prosthetics has increased dramatically in recent years. In general it is used for three purposes:

  • As a material from which to manufacture complete prostheses – usually in relation to partial hand and partial foot amputations.
  • As a material from which to manufacture liners for sockets. These liners are used as a soft interface between the residual limb and the socket of the prosthesis. These liners may be intended to protect a vulnerable residual limb and/or to provide some form of suspension.
  • As a material from which to manufacture a high definition prosthetic cover for a prosthesis to make the appearance more natural. These covers may be available "off the shelf" in some cases but various grades of customisation are also available.

For more information about High Definition/Silicone products we have provided downloadable brochures from Otto Bock. They are available in the right column.
