As with Wrist Hand Orthoses most of these devices are either fabric based OTS or low temperature thermoplastic and available "off the shelf". Common applications include ligament strains and arthritis. A small number are custom made and fitted by orthotists. Because of the small numbers there are no common clinical conditions associated with their use.

Unstable elbow dislocations/subluxations may be treated by either custom or OTS devices. Neurological conditions such as partial brachial plexus lesions or can occasionally benefit from the use of orthoses which incorporate locking elbow joints.

A very unstable elbow joint which fully dislocates constantly. The patient was considered to be unsuitable for surgery.
