IDS ::: Orthotics ::: Wrist Hand OrthosesThe vast majority of WHO's supplied are either fabric ‘off the shelf’ (OTS) devices or are custom made (generally by Occupational Therapists in the UK and Ireland) in low temperature thermoplastic. These often take the form of wrist supports which are designed to maintain or improve wrist and hand position. They are used for a very wide range of conditions. Some of the more common include CVA, RA and RSI. A very small number in the UK and Ireland are made by orthotists. These tend to be either more complex e.g. the tenodesis splint or are designed to be stronger and last longer. There are generally made from high temperature thermoplastics, laminates such as carbon fibre or even metal.
