IDS ::: Prosthetics ::: Stump SocksStump socks. These are made from a variety of materials. The most common are “terry toweling”, woolen, cotton, nylon or mixtures of these. Some stump socks incorporate silicone into the fabric as a protective mechanism. The socks obviously need to be available in a very wide range of lengths and widths to accommodate the variety of residual limbs. Interestingly, although the terms residual limb or residuum have replaced the word stump in common usage, we still refer to “stump” socks.
